Who can access RIMS?
All University staff who have a University computer account will have a personnel profile in RIMS and therefore will be able to access the system. However, if you do not have any records in RIMS, ie you do not have grants in the University system or you have never submitted an application for ethics approval, then you will not be able to progress beyond the first screen.
Anyone who has a Conjoint appointment with the University and has accepted the Terms and Conditions of their University computer account will have a personnel profile in RIMS and the same access as "Staff".
At the time an application is made for a computer account for an Affiliate it will be necessary to request access to the RIMS system to enable access. Note: This is only necessary if the Affiliate will require access to RIMs, eg will be named on research funding or ethics applications. Affiliates who already have a computer account and who require access to RIMS will need to contact Richard Maher in Research Services on 4921 7264 or Richard.Maher@newcastle.edu.au to have a profile activated.
All research higher degree and professional doctorate students will have a personnel profile in RIMS and be able to access the system. However, if you do not have any records in RIMS, i.e. you have not been named on research grants, fellowships or applications for ethics approval, then you will not be able to progress beyond the first screen.
Other coursework, honours and undergraduate students will have a personnel profile created in RIMS as and when required, i.e. they are to be named on an ethics submission. They will then be able to access RIMS using their University login. If a student in this group wishes to start an application in RIMS, i.e. in their supervisor's name, and they are unable to log on to RIMS, they will need to contact the ethics administration on 492 17360 or firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange their logon.
