Priority Research Centre in Physical Activity and Nutrition
The Priority Research Centre in Physical Activity & Nutrition takes a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to understanding physical activity and nutrition for population health and sports performance, with particular emphasis on education and health promotion strategies for chronic disease prevention, treatment, and wellbeing.
The PRC aims to examine these interrelationships across the lifespan, by targeting "at risk" populations, multiple levels (individual, social, organisational, population) and within various settings (schools, clinics, workplaces, communities).
The PRC offers unique interdisciplinary expertise and leadership by galvanising education and public health researchers, biochemists, exercise physiologists, food scientists, Accredited Practicing Dietitians (APDs), nutritionists and behavioral scientists to combat the obesity epidemic and related chronic disease burden to improve the quality of life of Australians.
Educational Research Institute Newcastle (ERIN)
Since 1949, our community of researchers and students has helped to build the University of Newcastle's reputation as a national and international centre for the study of education. Amongst the many recent research foci are pedagogy reform, values and citizenship education, examining doctoral theses, physical activity interventions for children and adolescents, and support for families of children with disabilities.
The Educational Research Institute, Newcastle (ERIN) informs and impacts on education research and practice in Australia and around the world. The Institute's community of scholars has the breadth, the depth and the resources to make a difference. Education is at the centre of Australia's capacities to compete economically, to create social cohesion and inclusion, and to provide the opportunities students need in order to flourish and to contribute to the lives of others.
