Analytical chemists use a variety of different techniques to analyse the chemical make-up of substances. The results of this analysis may be used for such purposes as:

  • Drug formulation and development Toxicology
  • Quality control and product testing
  • Development of processes for the manufacture of chemical based products

Analytical chemists must have knowledge of chemistry, statistics, computers and advanced laboratory equipment (including robotics). They must be adept at operating increasingly sophisticated equipment and complete much of their work in the laboratory. Often employment can be found with pharmaceutical companies, food and beverage manufacturers, government bodies, environmental and materials research organisations.
