Production managers oversee the production of projects, usually in the creative arts and entertainment industries; this may mean a dramatic performance, musician playing or the recording of a TV show. They coordinate and supervise technical aspects such as budget and logistics, lighting and sound, though they may also take on various other tasks depending on the project requirements. In mid-size to large productions, production managers may coordinate a team of specialists while on smaller assignments they may adopt a more hands-on, practical role. There is no formal educational path to a career as a production manager, though studies in the arts as well as the completion technical industry courses are typical. Consistent with most career paths in the entertainment and media industries, professional experience is very important and may sometimes be the main criteria for employment.
