A human resources manager's role will differ depending on the size and type of the organisation in which they are employed. In large organisations the HR manager is usually responsible for formulating and driving human resources strategies concerning issues such as recruitment and training. They often work closely with other high level managers such as the director and financial managers of the organisation and may carry the partial responsibility for HR related budgeting and policy formulation. In a smaller organisation, the HR manager may also be involved in these tasks but often has more face to face contact with employees; providing evaluations, handling disciplinary matters, mediation and aspects of the hiring process. In both large and small organisations extensive experience and leadership ability are vital, while postgraduate qualifications will improve employment and advancement prospects.
