Nurse Managers are responsible for the management of a health service unit or sub-unit, which includes supervising nursing staff and managing financial resources to enable the provision of safe, cost effective nursing care within a specified field or for a particular unit. Nurse Managers have a responsibility to monitor quality, clinical standards and professional development of nurses within their unit.

Nurse Managers can be employed to manage units within hospitals, aged care facilities or community health care facilities. Registration and licensing as a Registered Nurse is required and these roles normally require substantial professional experience and sometimes postgraduate study.
