Publications officers or editors are employed to manage and administer the branding, visual identity and communications of a particular organisation or department. They may produce newsletters and information booklets, press releases, advertisements, web information and signage to provide general information and promote particular campaigns, exhibitions or events.

This role requires creativity, as well as a good understanding of communication strategies and the identity of an organisation. Example employers include museums, art galleries and tourist attractions, community organisations and charities, sporting organisations, unions, societies and associations as well as commercial businesses and government departments particularly at a local level.
