Retail account managers are responsible for driving sales of their clients' products by developing marketing strategies and business plans, organising product launches and generally promoting and merchandising products for which they are responsible. They also liaise with distributors to try to negotiate prominent product display in store and increase the number of outlets at which their product is available. Usually responsible for a portfolio of clients, professionals in this occupation may also be required to actively increase their client base, so need strong communication and sales skills. Some organisations treat this type of role as entry-level, so it suits graduates who wish to progress into higher level positions within the same organisation.
