A senior analyst programmer is a computer programmer with at least five years of experience in supervising co-workers and developing software applications.  They guide a programming team in using computer programming languages to create or change existing software applications.

Senior analyst programmers usually start as junior analyst programmers and after developing a few projects, while showing efficiency in leadership, they are promoted to the senior position.

The senior analyst programmer oversees and supervises various elements of software and application development.  They guide the applications development team in four areas: conversion (converting to a new software application or platform), testing (testing applications for errors), debugging and modifying program modules.  The senior analyst creates the procedures for these processes and uses his or her knowledge to help programmers solve complex problems
