A Sonographer is a highly skilled medical imaging professional who operates ultrasound equipment to acquire visual images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body for medical diagnostic purposes. Ultrasound has widespread uses and is one of the most commonly requested types of medical imaging tests. Sonographers can specialise in vascular, musculoskeletal or abdominal sonography as well as obstetrics or echocardiography. Sonographers will normally work in hospitals or private clinics.

To practise as an accredited Sonographer you must have completed an undergraduate degree in the health sciences, usually in fields such as medical radiation, physiotherapy and nursing, as well as the completion of a graduate diploma or Master’s Program in Sonography that has been accredited by the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry is necessary.
