Tissue culture technicians reproduce live tissue in laboratories, commonly known as cloning. ‘Cloned’ tissue may be used for horticulture\agriculture, health and medical treatments, and in dealings with rare or endangered species. Tissue culture technicians are responsible for the setting up and maintenance of laboratory equipment, as well as performing technical tasks associated with cell reproduction, maintaining records, and storing samples. There are currently a limited number of employment opportunities available in this field, but prospects are expected to increase. To be successful in this role you will have good eyesight and hand eye coordination, and be able to accurately concentrate and record. Although you can work as a tissue culture technician without formal qualifications, your entry into this occupation may be improved if you have qualifications.
