The University of Newcastle is committed to environmental sustainability.  The University’s Environmental Sustainability Plan 2011-2013 includes a theme on Waste with a goal of delivering waste management services reflecting the waste management principles of avoid, reduce, re-use and recycle.

In an effort to support this goal, the Sustainability Action Group (SAG), has put together a KeepCup program to assist in the reduction of the use of disposable coffee cups.

What is a KeepCup?

A KeepCup is a lightweight and reusable coffee cup that can be used at all coffee shops on campus.

Why should I get a KeepCup?

You can help reduce waste on campus. You will also be rewarded with a discount from participating outlets each time you buy a coffee – saving you up to 50c every time you get a coffee!

How do I get a KeepCup?

  • Collect a form from either the City, Ourimbah, Shortland or Hunter Hub and fill in the details.
  • Take the form to the Cashiers (Student Services Centre or Ourimbah Hub) or use your student card to make your purchase.
  • Take the receipt back to the Hub and collect your environmentally friendly KeepCup.
  • Purchase takeaway coffee from participating campus vendors and enjoy the discount!

About the Sustainability Action Group (SAG)

SAG is a group of Environmental workplace champions originally established in the Governance and Academic Administration Unit, in the Academic Registrar’s portfolio, but now incorporating enthusiastic staff from many areas of the University including Student and Academic Services, Marketing and Media, Faculties, Finance and UoN Services.  SAG is working on a number of environmentally sustainable projects which all marry in with the University’s Environmental Sustainability Plan 2011-2013.
