Welcome to A Night of Big Band Music featuring the Australian National Jazz Orchestra (ANJO) Youth Big Band and the University of Newcastle Jazz Orchestra.

Join us at Newcastle Conservatorium of Music for an evening filled with incredible live big band music. Featuring some of the best young jazz musicians in Australia, established Newcastle musicians and international arranger / composer Remy Le Boeuf, this concert will be an incredible night of high energy and sophisticated big band music encompassing many genres. Not to be missed!

About the performers:

This concert features special guests the Australian National Jazz Orchestra Youth Big Bandwho bring together our brightest and youngest jazz stars, aged 18 - 25, from across the nation. Entry to the ANJO Youth Big Band is by competitive, blindfold audition with the successful candidates travelling to Sydney for a week-long intensive with special guest artist Remy Le Boeuf in preparation for this concert. Remy Le Boeuf is a 4x Grammy-nominated composer and saxophonist whose music is rooted in the jazz tradition and overlaps into contemporary classical and indie-rock realms. Le Boeuf is also the founder and director of the jazz orchestra, Assembly of Shadows, as well as the Chief Conductor of the Nordkraft Big Band in Denmark. He has worked with a range of collaborators including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Linda Oh, HAIM, JACK Quartet, Dayna Stephens, Prefuse 73, and his identical twin brother Pascal, with whom he co-leads the experimental jazz quintet, Le Boeuf Brothers. Le Boeuf is the Director of Jazz and Commercial Music Studies and an Assistant Professor at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music.

The University of Newcastle Jazz Orchestra is a community ensemble which showcases the considerable talents of our Alumni and local musicians from the vibrant Newcastle music scene. It celebrates big band jazz from traditional to contemporary and has been a great vehicle for local musicians to develop their reading, ensemble and improvisational skills. Currently in its 10th year it continues to attract talented and loyal players on a weekly basis and provides opportunities to perform at prominent events with the city.

This concert showcases local, national and international musicians so don't miss this unforgettable night of virtuosity and infectious rhythms – a must-see for any jazz enthusiast or music lover!

Tickets only $10 plus bf. All ages welcome. Bar and ticketing opens at 6pm. Doors at 6:45pm. Concert commences at 7pm.
