Summary
Students who perform well during the Bachelor of Nursing degree may undertake a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study to obtain an Honours degree. The Honours degree is designed to develop students' knowledge and skills in research and theory development, and involves a research project in a selected field of nursing. It is intended for registered nurses who wish to prepare themselves for higher degree studies and for leadership in nursing practice, research and education.
Career opportunities
Employment opportunities for nurses are excellent. Graduates may be employed in public or private sector health-care system, including hospitals, clinics, industry, nursing homes, community health-care agencies, private homes and local communities. Honours graduates may also follow a career in nursing administration, research or education.
The range of work areas include general nursing, medical/surgical, psychiatric/mental health, developmental disability, community health, rehabilitation, occupational health and safety, paediatrics, accident and emergency, women's health, operating theatres, aged care, palliative care and many others.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent degree with a high grade point average.

The Nursing Honours program provides students with well developed knowledge and skills in a specialised area of nursing research. The courses together comprise a program of approved supervised research. Candidates present a project report in the form of a thesis. The project report is also presented and defended orally. Candidates are required to submit an assignment on an approved topic and to attend seminars.
Credit Transfer Agreements
No credit is given in the Honours Program.

This is a one-year, full time (or equivalent part time) program.
The program requires the completion of 80 units of prescribed courses.

Students are required to complete the following courses totalling 80 units.
Students whose research projects involve the use of qualitative research methods will undertake NURS4301 Nursing Research Methods. Those undertaking research involving quantitative approaches will undertake EPID6420 Epidemiology A - Basic Methods and HLSC4120 Research Methology and Design.
