Mr Michael Meany

Mr Michael Meany

Michael Meany's research interests straddle interdisciplinary boundaries. His work covers traditional media forms like photography and theatre as well as new media forms like virtual reality and web-based multimedia. Particular topics of interest include: narrative and interactive design (particularly in online media), script writing and character development, virtual environments and immersion, and the relationship between creativity and humour.

Michael earned his Master of Creative Arts by writing a triptych of plays and an exegesis. The research questioned the use of new media technology inside the traditional theatre performance. The plays use computers on stage as characters that interact with one another and with the human cast members. The following link is to an interactive presentation that he gave at the International Conference on Arts in Society Conference held in Edinburgh in 2006.

Likewise, working with Richard Tipping, Michael has produced examples of interactive, new media poetry. Using Richard's poetry as a base Michael has developed animated and interactive elements for web delivery. This work will be delivered at a Humanities conference in Paris in 2007.
