How to apply

1) Check your options for entry

There are many ways to get into university. No matter what your background, there are options for entry into the University of Newcastle to help you further your career, re-enter the workforce or explore your interests.

For more information, visit options for entry

2) Grab a copy of the UAC Guide

If you are a year 12 student sitting the HSC in NSW or ACT, your school will give you a free copy. You can also purchase a copy from newsagencies and some bookshops. The guide is your info source to help you with your application.

For more information, visit the UAC website

3) Check for additional entry requirements

Your degree may have additional selection criteria (such as audition, interview or portfolio), so it is important that you check this before applying. You should also check for prerequisites, assumed knowledge and recommended studies for your preferred degree. To make it easier, we've put together all of this info on our What Can I Study  webpages.

4) Apply through UAC

On-time main round applications open in August 2011 close on 30 September 2011. Some degrees have earlier closing dates (check the UAC Guide for details). You can still apply in the main round until early December 2011 but you will be charged a late fee.

You can nominate up to nine preferences and these preferences can be changed up until early January 2012 once your initial application is submitted. You should put your preferences in order of what you would like to study most.

All applications for our undergraduate degrees are through UAC. You can apply online at the UAC website

Mid Year

Some degrees can be started mid-year, where you would commence studying in July. It is important to check  which degrees will be offered. Mid Year Entry closes 10 June, 2011.

FYI

You can select up to nine preferences on your uni application form. Make sure you list your preferences in order of what you really want to do, and consider all degrees  related to your area of interest.
