About your ATAR

Changing from UAI to ATAR

In 2009, the Universities Admissions Index (UAI) for NSW and ACT Year 12 students is changing to the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

There are two key changes:

The changes are designed to achieve national consistency in the name and reporting of the University selection index. For more information about the changes please visit www.uac.edu.au or call 02 9752 0200.

How your ATAR works

Each university determines how many positions they have available in each course. This includes positions for those transferring from another Faculty or university, as well as school leavers, non school leavers and TAFE transfers.

The number of offers made takes into account the projected number of withdrawals and non-acceptances.

The minimum ATAR is the score of the last applicant admitted to the program. It doesn't mean that everyone admitted to the program had the cut-off score. In fact, in all programs, the scores of new students entering a program will range from the cut-off score up to the high 90s - even 99.95 in some cases!

Previous year ATARs (UAIs) should be taken as a guide only as to what might be required in future years. ATARs can change from year to year according to demand.

The UAC Main Round in January each year is the major selection round for those wishing to commence study in first semester (February).

Late and Final Round offers may be made if there are still places available in the course.

University has a mid-year intake for commencement in second semester (July) for which a separate UAC application is required. The range of courses available mid-year is smaller than at the beginning of the year.
