The Confucius Institute is a non-profit educational organisation dedicated to enhancing understanding of Chinese language and culture in the Newcastle and Hunter region. Through language training courses and engagement programs with schools, principals and the general community, the Confucius Institute aims to strengthen educational and cultural exchange and cooperation between China and our region.The Confucius Institute is a joint venture between the Office of the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) and the University of Newcastle.

The Conservatorium of Music at the University of Newcastle brings together the community for enjoyment and education. The Conservatorium continues to play an important role in Newcastle’s vibrant music community. The Conservatorium provides musical experiences for the wider community. These are open to the general public and cater from Early Childhood Music classes (starting age 6 months) to hosting activities by University of the Third Age and the Music Lovers Club.

The University of Newcastle’s Community radio 2NURFM provides a valuable community radio station and opportunities for communications and media students to gain valuable experience.

The University Gallery and Watt Space Gallery provides facilities for students to exhibit and spaces for the presentation, promotion and discussion of artistic and cultural developments and achievements in other areas of research at the University of Newcastle. The University Gallery also presents curated exhibitions and touring shows that are relevant to the wider University and Hunter community, promoting an awareness of contemporary artists, communities and disciplines, through Public Programs and mentoring sessions.

The University of Newcastle Library is central to the University's academic and community endeavour, and operates through four library buildings, as well as a rapidly expanding online environment. Information for community borrowers is available on the Library web pages.
