Enhancing Student Success:

The role of integrated support services conference 2005

Student Support Unit, Central Coast Campus

The "Enhancing Student Success" conference held by the Student Support Unit at the Ourimbah Campus on 11 April was highly successful, with just over 100 delegates attending from nearly every state in Australia, as well as New Zealand and even one UK delegate.

The conference attracted student support personnel, academics and administrators from a wide range of tertiary institutions. Sixteen papers were presented in the parallel sessions, on topics including student transition and retention, mentoring, teaching and learning strategies, disabilities and educational pathways, as well as programs for supporting indigenous, rural and international students.

In addition were the Welcome and Opening Addresses, given by Dr. Barry McKnight and Professor Anne Graham, and a very entertaining Keynote Address by Dr. Jim Bright. Feedback from delegates and presenters has been extremely positive, with many requests for the conference to be repeated and extended over two days in the future. Many thanks to the members of the organising committee, the presenters and all the delegates for such a successful day.
