Explores the nature, regulation and management of the employment relationship in different business, cultural, legal, institutional and historical contexts. Focuses especially on the different ideological and intellectual perspectives on the employment relationship, the changing nature of employment and the labour market, the role of the state in regulating the employment relationship, different forms of employee representation (union and non-union), management strategy in employment relations, and the implications of different employment relations regimes for equity and efficiency at both company and national levels.
|Objectives||On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Identify and explain key concepts in employment relations.
2. Demonstrate an appreciation of key historical and cultural changes in the nature of work and the employment relationship.
3. Analyse a range of laws, institutional structures and managerial practices in employment relations across countries.
4. Apply the skills necessary to analyse problems and develop managerial solutions to employment relations problems at both national and workplace levels
