Asbestos-related lung disease, James Hardie, Medical Ethics and the Law
On Monday, February 1st, please come to the first Clinical Unit in Ethics and Health Law (CUEHL) seminar for 2010.
This seminar will be on a fascinating social, political and historical issue, that of industrial asbestos-related lung disease. Dr. Sue Miles, respiratory physician, will present on the history of asbestos mining, and production, on the nature and epidemiology of asbestos-related disease, and on the ethical issues involved. Sue will be followed by a presentation from the legal team at Slater and Gordon who have been involved with representing exposed individuals seeking compensation. The meeting will be chaired by Professor John Hamilton.
Please join us for what should be an excellent seminar to kick off the New Year. For those who have not previously attended CUEHL, the seminar is free, and supper is provided. People of all disciplines are welcome, including especially medical students, health professionals of all stripes, lawyers, philosophers, ethicists and the general public.
Supper will be served in the foyer of the Royal Newcastle Centre at 6pm, with the seminar to commence at 6.30 sharp in the RNC lecture theatre upstairs.
Please RSVP to Charles Douglas (charles.douglas@newcastle.edu.au) for approximate catering numbers.
