Marika Osmotherly "Heft" 2012, digital photograph, 2.8 x 3.7m
Join artist Marika Osmotherly for the opening of her MPhil exhibition Lightness of Being.
Please join artist Marika Osmotherly to celebrate the opening of her Master of Philosophy (Fine Art) exhibition which focuses on the metaphysical question of whether or not 'being' and 'existence' can carry metaphorical weight. Through this research Osmotherly explores theories of phenomenology and the sublime in the hope of finding resolution to this question through their application within the field of contemporary sculpture. The aim of her studio practice is to communicate human significance or lack thereof through combining fragile allusions to the human form juxtaposed with large, heavy structures of rocks and boulders. The sculptural works essentially provide a physical expression of the notions of lightness and weight by which we might measure our existential significance. Photography is used as a major supportive medium to the three dimensional interventions within the gallery space to enhance notions of the sublime. Exhibition dates: 30 January - 16 February. Gallery hours: Wed-Sat 12-6pm.
