 FEDUA RESEARCH INSTITUTES' LAUNCH

The Faculty of Education and Arts at the University of Newcastle have recently formed a new direction in humanities, education and social science research in Newcastle and will officially launch the three new Research Institutes:

  • Educational Research Institute Newcastle (ERIN)

  • Humanities Research Institute

  • Research Institute for Social Inclusion and Wellbeing (RISIW)

The institutes will be launched by Ms Sharon Grierson MP, Federal Member for Newcastle

'LESBIAN REPRESENTATION IN WOELD CINEMA' - Dr Rebecca Beirne

Followed by a free public seminar program in the afternoon*

Research Institutes Launch Free Public Seminar

Following the public Launch and lunch two seminars will provide details of current research directions within two of the institutes. The seminars are free and open to the public. More details including speaker biographies and presentation abstracts will be posted in the comming weeks.

Humanities Research Institute Seminar 1:00pm- 3:00pm

  • Endangered Languages Documentation, Theory and Application - Dr Bill Palmer 
  • Violence and Social Order - Associate Professor Philip Dwyer
  • Newcastle and the Humanities - a series of short illustrated talks

Educational Research Institute Newcastle (ERIN) 1:00pm to 3:30pm

  • Keynote speaker: Ms Deborah O'Neil MP, Federal Member for Robertson
  • 'Teacher Change: Problems and Possibilities' Associate Professor James Ladwig
  • 'Adaptive Knowledge Production' - Professor Allyson Holbrook
  • 'Physical Activity and Population Health Education' - Professor Ron Plotnikoff
  • 'Teacher identity, learning and development' - 2010 Early Career Research Fellow Dr Nicole Mockler
  • 'Targeted interventions to prevent and treat obesity' 2011 Mid - Career Research Fellow Associate Professor Philip Morgan
