FEDUA's Mid-Career Research Fellowship scheme for funding in 2013 and 2014 closed on April 3. Nine applications were received, five of which were assessed under the criterion for Gender Equity.

Following the Selection Advisory Panel meeting held, five proposals have been approved for funding.

Congratulations to the following Faculty MCR Fellows:

2013
Dr Gillian Arrighi
Dr Marguerite Johnson

2014
Dr Brooke Collins-Gearing

Associate Professor Alistair Rolls

These colleagues join previous recipients of the Faculty MCR/MCR GE Fellowship: Dr Lisa Featherstone (2011), Professor Philip Morgan (2011), Dr Tom Griffiths (2012), and Dr Jo Ailwood (2012).

This Fellowship scheme is another example of putting our Faculty plans into action, which were devised following feedback from staff.

There funding guidelines and application process will be further fine-tuned and refined for the next round of this scheme which we anticipate will open in early 2014 for funding in 2015.

Applications close:  Wednesday 3 April 2013

The FEDUA Mid-Career Researcher (MCR) Fellowship scheme is funded wholly by the Faculty. It is an important element of the Faculty’s Research and Innovation Action Plan 2013-2015 that seeks to increase the research capacity of the Faculty through both the professional development of its staff and support of their research through internal fellowships.

The MCR Fellowship scheme is also an important element of the Faculty’s Gender Equity Action Plan 2012-2015, which designates at least one fellowship per year will be awarded to a female academic staff member in recognition of the barriers that women experience in the tertiary sector, such as career interruptions due to carer responsibilities, casual and short-term employment, and limited access to leadership roles. As such, the current gender profile of the Faculty, where women are under-represented in the professoriate, will be addressed.

The FEDUA MCR Fellowship scheme is intended to:

  • Support high calibre mid-career researchers by providing time and support to regain, maintain or advance their research productivity.
  • Strengthen the capabilities of existing and emerging areas of research concentration and excellence within the Faculty.

It is intended that at least two MCR Fellowships will be offered each year, one of which will be awarded on the basis of gender equity. Successful applicants will receive $15,000 to ‘buy out’ teaching duties for one semester by directing funding to the Fellow’s School to be used for casual teaching. Fellows will also receive a Conference Travel Grant.

Potential applicants should read the MCR Fellowship guidelines carefully before completing the application form.
