Our Shows
This year the team from the University of Newcastle’s SMART program has six exciting science shows on offer:
The Water Game
The renewed Water Game is back by popular demand! This science show focuses on the importance, properties and uses of the planet's most valuable resource; water! It is more fun, more practical, more fast-paced, (more competitive) and more interactive than any science show you've ever seen!
The Science of Entertainment 2: the Future
This is the sequel to the popular 2003 SMART show that probed the science behind movies. The new show uses interactive multimedia, hands-on demonstrations and exciting audio/video clips to explore the future of entertainment and, of course, the science that makes it work.
So, what might the future of entertainment involve? Interactive systems, CGI, green screen, motion capture, composite images, Wii technology, rendering and much more.
SMARTbots Inc
Robots. What are they? How do they work? Are they really going to take over the world? All these questions, and more, will be answered during the multimedia SMART science show called SMARTbots Inc. During your interactive 40 minute (virtual) tour of SMARTbots Inc head quarters you will meet the RoboRaptor, Andy and Angela the Androids, and Destructor your friendly robot simulator. You'll also have fun and come to appreciate some of the technology that makes robots tick.
The Body Show
The Body Show explores many of the fascinating systems that make up the human body. The circulatory, respiratory, skeletal, digestive and nervous systems are introduced in a fun and engaging way. The 5 senses and are also covered. Students will be enthralled by the practical demonstrations, interactive activities and larger-than-life models
Science @ Home
Too often Science is thought of as too hard, too specialised or too remote. But have you ever considered all the exciting science at your home? The Science @ Home show explores some of the fascinating science in and around everyone’s home. Chemistry in the kitchen, physics in the garage, bugs in the bathroom, maths in the home cinema… it’s all there! It runs for 45 minutes and is adaptable for school students from kinder to year 6.
Chemistry Shows #1 and #2
Chemistry is everywhere! These two compatible shows are aimed at K-6, and each incorporates a series of discussions and demonstrations that take a look at all things from hydrogen fuel, fireworks, glow sticks, green slime, dry ice, exploding bubbles and more! It aims to broaden students’ awareness and appreciation of chemistry, and enthuse and inspire the next generation of scientists.
