Central Coast Primary Industries Centre - Department of Primary Industries
The Central Coast Primary Industries Centre is a partnership between the Department of Primary Industries and the University of Newcastle. The new state-of-the-art laboratory and administrative complex houses world-class researchers, who help to make new horticultural technology and best practices more accessible to NSW farmers. The Centre is a leading Australian horticulture research facility.
What’s happening?
- The Central Coast Primary Industries Centre carries out scientific research that supports a wide range of agricultural, horticultural and fisheries industries in our State.
- Examples of current research include greenhouse vegetable production, new green tea varieties, improved fruit fly management, and providing increased access to overseas export markets.
- The researchers also help farmers increase their productivity, use less water in the production of crops, and produce better fruit and vegetables using the latest technology and techniques.
When is the building officially open?
The Central Coast Primary Industries Centre was officially opened by the Hon. Katrina Hodgkinson, NSW Minister for Primary Industries, and Minister for Small Business on Tuesday 27th September 2011.
The relationship between the University and the Department of Primary Industries was strengthened at the opening ceremony with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU commits both institutions to work together in developing research and training for staff and students.
