University of Newcastle student Lauren Murray has won a scholarship to study in China for one year.

21-year-old Ms Murray - a third year Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws student - has received outstanding results in her study of the Chinese language.

The scholarship is from the Chinese government to study Mandarin from March 2008 for one year at a major university in China.

"I'm really excited and thrilled to be offered this amazing opportunity to study in China," Ms Murray said. "The scholarship will help me immensely in my study of Mandarin."
