Thirty-five students from rural and regional New South Wales are heading to the University of Newcastle this week to give health careers the once over.

The students will visit the University on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 July as part of Rural High Schools Health Career Week.

Travelling from as far afield as Tamworth, Broken Hill, Lismore, Orange and Dubbo, the Year 10 and 11 students have shown interest in pursuing a career in the medical and health science fields.

The week exposes students to city and university life, and while in Newcastle the students will hear about the University's degrees and take a tour of the John Hunter Hospital.

The Rural High Schools Health Career Week is a joint initiative between the University of Newcastle, the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney.
