Fine Art Honours student Martin Trew's outstanding art works have been recognised with the awarding of the Jenny Thomas Travelling Scholarship for 2007 and the acquisition of a selection of his works by Energy Australia.

Mr Trew, whose art is predominately photomedia and installation-based, completed his Honours in semester one. His Honours work Suspensions is a series of 10 inkjet prints featuring old electricity cabling and was recently featured in the 'Field Distribution' exhibition at the John Paynter Gallery.

The collection was recently bought by Energy Australia and will be housed in its Sydney Head Office.

Mr Trew will travel to New York this weekend as a result of being awarded the Jenny Thomas Travelling Scholarship, a scholarship awarded each year to Fine Art students to further their artistic development.

An external art work by Mr Trew commissioned by Watt Space and the Newcastle Region Art Gallery is currently on display at the Fred Ash Building in Hunter Street, Newcastle.
