The University of Newcastle has joined with local business to support the region's young and upcoming leaders with nominations now open for an innovative leadership award.
The University of Newcastle Leadership Award recognises and encourages emerging leaders in the Hunter and Central Coast regions, providing the winner with unique opportunities to develop their skills.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Newcastle, Professor Nicholas Saunders, said the University was committed to supporting the local community and fostering leaders for the region's future.
"Today's young leaders are the key to a strong future for our region. Investing in our young people today will reap rewards for tomorrow," said Professor Saunders.
The University of Newcastle Leadership Awards is a partnership with Fordcomm, Coal and Allied Trust, the Hunter Business Chamber and the Hunter Economic Development Corporation.
Brad Webb, Chief Operating Officer of Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), was named as winner of the inaugural Leadership Award.
"Not only did the award provide me with a unique opportunity to explore and develop my skills in leadership, it also brought me together with other young leaders," said Mr Webb. "It is exciting to see young leadership in the Hunter and Central Coast being recognised and nurtured."
The winner of the University of Newcastle Leadership Award will receive a package of prizes including participation in a mentored leadership program and a $10,000 leadership development scholarship.
This is the second year that the University of Newcastle has offered the award. Last year the award attracted nominees from a range of industry groups including teaching, tourism, local government and charity organisations.
