Engineering graduate off to Cambridge under prestigious scholarship

One of the world's most respected universities will soon be welcoming University of Newcastle Engineering graduate Alex Tayler to its ranks.

Tayler, who completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) degree, will travel to the UK's University of Cambridge at the end of September to take up the prestigious Poynton Cambridge Australia Scholarship.

The scholarship allows Tayler to study at the renowned Magnetic Resonance Research Centre (MRRC), a world leader in the field. He has also been awarded an Honorary External Research Studentship by Trinity College, one of the biggest of the Cambridge Colleges.

The scholarship will allow him to undertake doctoral studies looking at methods to predict the behaviour of single and multiphase fluid flows using ultrafast Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Tayler's work will follow in the footsteps of a previous University of Newcastle graduate, Simon Sullivan, who developed the initial code to predict flows. Tayler's work aims to extend and experimentally validate that code.

Sullivan has also undertaken doctoral studies at the MRRC and Trinity College.
