Making a Difference: Multidimensional Citizenship Education in a Changing World

Citizenship is a contested notion in the modern world. National governments struggle to engage their residents in adherence to their national vision. Young children ask why groups within our nation state brawl in the streets under the flags of different countries. Educators at all levels and many persuasions address various aspects of citizenship and the conference theme of multidimensional citizenship (Cogan and Derricott, 1998) provides a forum for a variety of views.

Keynote Speakers

The conference will feature Keynote Addresses by:

  • Sharon Grierson MP, Federal Member for Newcastle
  • former President of the NSW Teacher Education Council Professor Terry Lovat, and
  • Senior Research Fellow, ACER, Suzanne Mellor, who heads the National Assessment Program -- Civics and Citizenship
