Former Wallabies centre Tim Horan will be the special guest speaker at the University of Newcastle 2008 Sports Awards on Friday 5 September.

Hosted by NUsport, the annual event recognises the sporting achievements of University students and includes the awarding of the prestigious Blues, Colours, Club of the Year and Sports Person of the Year.

The awards reflect the University's ongoing commitment to providing sporting opportunities for its students. It is also a way of recognising the achievements of past and present athletes and its valuable sporting culture.

Guest elite student athletes Mark Sargent, Jo Peters and Martin Kelly will also share their academic and sporting achievements. Local media personality Jim Callinan will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Tickets cost $80 and include a three course dinner and refreshments. Bookings are essential by Friday 29 August.
