The University of Newcastle will mark History Week with a stunning outdoor exhibition depicting the transformation of the Newcastle Port.

Newcastle on the Edge features seven panoramas of the Newcastle Port, dating from 1812 to today.

Gionni Di Gravio from the University's Cultural Collections said the interpretation of contemporary and historical images showed the cultural transformation of trade and industry of the Port.

"This is an opportunity for the Newcastle community to take a look back at how the Port has changed over the years."

The exhibition is sponsored by the University of Newcastle's School of Humanities and Social Science. It is a collaborative event involving the University of Newcastle, the Maritime Centre and the History Council of New South Wales.
