Local high school students will converge on the University of Newcastle Central Coast campus at Ourimbah on Thursday 4 December for the annual High School Debating Day.
Topics for debate this year include: That there should be a licence required to parent; That violence in video games is fuelling violence in reality; and That examinations should be abolished.
The tournament will feature three preliminary rounds of debating in two pools, with the two highest point-scoring teams to meet in the grand final. The winning school will receive the Debate Cup Perpetual Trophy to be displayed in their school foyer.
An annual event since 2005, Debating Day regularly attracts 20 teams from schools across the Central Coast region. Hosted by the University's School of Education, Debating Day will also involve University education students acting as adjudicators.
