The University of Newcastle is the first university in Australia to partner with Lonely Planet and release a customised travel guide for prospective students.
Study Newcastle is an innovative new marketing approach highlighting the Newcastle lifestyle and giving an overview of campus facilities and services.
The pocket sized guide provides information on study programs, student accommodation, recreational facilities, cultural events and sporting clubs.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Global Relations), Professor Kevin McConkey, said the travel guide formed part of the University's strategy to attract international students to Newcastle.
"The University is partnering with Lonely Planet, a known and trusted brand, to connect with future students.
"International student profiles are featured throughout the guide and give a personal insight into what life could be like as a student of the University."
Richard Samson, Lonely Planet General Manager, Asia Pacific, said the guide would be a great resource for Newcastle locals and new students alike.
"Lonely Planet understands how valuable it is for students to get to the heart of the city in which they're studying. This is our first customised university guide in Australia, and we believe the content from our author Catherine Le Nevez will be a useful marketing tool."
The guide will be distributed to prospective international students over the next two years.
