The University of Newcastle will pay tribute to graduates at a special ceremony in Hong Kong tonight.

Fifteen Doctorate of Business Administration and 76 Master of Business students are eligible to graduate in tonight’s ceremony.

The Chancellor of the University, Professor Trevor Waring, said the graduates receiving their degrees were an important part of the University community.

“International students play an integral role in the vibrant academic, social and cultural experience of the University,” Professor Waring said.

“Overseas graduation ceremonies are an exciting and vital part of the University of Newcastle’s connection with its many international students.”

A successful partnership with the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) over the past seven years has positioned the University to contribute significantly to the region.

“The University of Newcastle thanks HKMA and the graduating students for the special contribution they have made to creating a rich and dynamic international experience.”

The President of the University’s Alumni Mr Brian Kennaugh will give the occasional address. A University of Newcastle graduate, Mr Kennaugh is the CEO of Hunter Financial Planning and has extensive experience in senior management and other roles including consulting, coaching and mentoring. Mr Kennaugh works tirelessly to provide academic, cultural and business opportunities for alumni, and to promote the recognition of outstanding graduates.

Currently the University has some 7,300 international students enrolled in its programs (including Study Abroad, English language and International Foundation students), with 2,300 studying outside of Australia.
Graduates from tonight’s ceremony will join the University’s Hong Kong Alumni Chapter.

The University of Newcastle graduation ceremony and alumni dinner will be staged on Wednesday 24 November in The Garden Room at Hotel Nikko, Hong Kong, from 6pm.
