The winner of the 2010 Newcastle Poetry Prize, Australia’s most widely recognised and respected poetry award, will be announced this Saturday 27 November.
Sponsored by the University of Newcastle and Newcastle City Council, and coordinated through the Hunter Writers’ Centre, the prestigious Newcastle Poetry Prize attracts hundreds of entries from across the country each year. A total of $13,500 will be awarded to this year’s winners in the open, local and new media sections.
The Newcastle Poetry Prize will form part of the Weekend of Poetry, which will start on Friday and include readings, lunches, dinners, an exhibition and a poetry performance.
Twenty-four poems will feature in this year’s Poetry Prize anthology, time with the sky, which will be launched at the prize ceremony. University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Saunders will announce the winners.
