The University of Newcastle Chamber Choir will take on the world in the 2012 World Choir Games and they need your help get there.

The world-renowned 40-member choir will be returning to the games held in Cincinnati to defend their title - they were crowned gold medallists in the contemporary and mixed open categories of last year's world games in Shanghai, China last year.

The choir, made up of University staff, students and singers from the wider Newcastle community, were ranked eighth in the prestigious Musical Mundi world rankings in April and have continually wowed judges in national competitions across Australia.

Under the baton of internationally renowned Choir Master, Dr Philip Matthias, they hope to strike a chord with US audiences and take excellence to a new level.

Following the group's appearance at the 2012 World Choir Games they will take their show on the road with performances at Washington, Boston, Bermuda and at the Rhythms of One World Festival in New York City.

The choir’s success and its appeal to audiences are due to its fresh performance style, from the classic through to contemporary sounds of bands like Queen and the Rolling Stones.

Winners of the Channel 7 Battle of the Choirs, this Choir has produced eight CDs, sung in Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral in London, plus Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
