University of Newcastle Alumnus and leading corporate and commercial lawyer, Mr John Zhao, has been recognised at the 2012 Australia China Alumni Awards.
Mr Zhao won the Corporate Achievement Award at the prestigious event that aims to recognise and promote the exceptional and diverse achievements of Australian-educated university alumni now based in China.
Mr Zhao, a 2004 Master of Business Administration graduate, has more than 16 years experience as a leading lawyer, providing legal guidance and management for some of the largest companies in the world including Blue Scope Steel; The Shangri la Hotel and Resort Group; and Yum! Brands Inc., where he is currently the Legal Director.
Mr Zhao’s fellow University of Newcastle Alumnus, Mr Richard Mullane was also acknowledged at the Awards, receiving a Commended in the Young Alumni category.
At just 30 years of age, Richard Mullane is a creative and talented architect who has extensive experience working in Australia, the United Kingdom, and China. Mr Mullane completed a Bachelor of Design (Architecture) at the University of Newcastle in 2002.
More than 150,000 Chinese students have studied in Australia since the early 1970s, and the awards also aim to recognise the deepening Australia-China relationship.
