Policy Search
New Academic Policies from 1 January 2012
Academic policies have been reviewed and rationalised through the Streamlining Academic Policies project. Two new Academic Policy Suites came into effect from 1 January 2012 replacing a number of policy documents.
Policy Review Underway
A major review of all categories of policy and delegations is currently in progress. Staff in the Governance and Policy unit are working with business owners to review policies, examine best practice, benchmark with other institutions and ensure consistency across our policies and delegations. The Policy Review project has been sponsored by the Vice-Chancellor. The aim is to have more structured, coherent, easy to follow and up-to-date University policies.

New or Amended Policies
- Ethical and Accountable Conduct - Public Interest Disclosures Policy 000969 - New policy establishes a system for the reporting of disclosures relating to corrupt conduct, maladministration, serious and substantial waste of public money, government information contravention or any other wrongdoing by the public officials of the University of Newcastle.
- Student Misconduct Rule 000935 - Amended: reduction of appeal period to 10 days and now inlcudes process for the appointment of Student Academic Conduct Officers.
- Lab Decommissioning Procedure 000970 - New procedure for the decommissioning and/or vacating of laboratories and associated facilities, including the process for dealing with any chemical, radioactive or biological contamination of materials and/or property.
- Delegation of Authority Policy 000083 - Authorises staff, committees or bodies to exercise powers, incur liabilities and make decisions.
- Procurement Policy 000946 - Describes the principles guiding procurement activities by delegated officers.
- Tender Procedure 000947 - Outlines the process to be followed for the procurement of goods and services valued at over $150,000 (GST exclusive).
- Quotation Procedure 000948 - Outlines the process to be followed for the procurement of goods and services valued up to $150,000.
- Diversity and Inclusiveness Policy 000941 - Sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all members of the University community and the consequences for any breach.
- Adverse Circumstances Affecting Assessment Items Policy 000939 (new policy effective 1 January 2012) - Intended to support students who are suffering from adverse circumstances which may affect their academic performance in assessments.
- Rules Governing Awards and Programs - 000958 - A new Rule developed by the Streamlining Academic Policies Project effective from 1 January 2012.
- Rules Governing Admission and Enrolment - 000966 - A new Rule developed by the Streamlining Academic Policies Project effective from 1 January 2012
