Admission to Candidature

1. An applicant for admission to candidature to the Bachelor of Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety program shall satisfy the following admission criteria:

(a) hold an approved Diploma in science or engineering from a recognised Singapore Polytechnic or equivalent; or

(b) hold a PSB-IPT Diploma from the PSB Academy – Productivity and Standards Board in Singapore, or equivalent and at least three years of relevant work experience; and

(c) satisfy the University of Newcastle’s English language requirements.

Clause 2 Enrolment has been rescinded.

Credit

3. On the basis of 1(a) or 1(b) above, candidates will be granted credit of 80 units.

Qualification for Admission to the Degree

4. To qualify for admission to the degree, a candidate shall pass the program of study approved by the Academic Senate totalling 160 units, in addition to the 80 units of credit granted under clause 3 above, making a total of 240 units.

Grading of the Degree

5.1 The degree will be awarded as an ordinary degree; or

5.2 For students who entered the program from 2011, the degree will be awarded 'with Distinction' to those students who gain a minimum GPA of 6.0 based on all studies undertaken in the program; or

5.3 For students who entered the program before 2011, the degree may be awarded 'with Distinction' where a candidate's performance has reached a standard determined by the Pro Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the Head of School. 

Time Requirements

6. Except with the permission of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, a candidate shall complete requirements for the course within eight years of study.

Amendment History

The President of Academic Senate approved the immediate rescission of Clause 2 Enrolment as the Program and Course Approval Committee approved the offering of this program on a full-time basis and therefore, students will enrol in accordance with the standard University policy on Enrolment - 30 May 2012

Administrative Amendment to Clause 5 Grading of the Degree to clarify that the increased GPA requirement applies to students who entered the program from 2011 - Approved by (Acting) President of Academic Senate 14 September 2011.
