Staff Use of University Libraries Policy

Document Number000340

Borrowing Privileges

  1. Members of staff who are undertaking University courses must use their student card to borrow course material.
  2. With the exception of some material, staff are able to borrow from the library for a 12 week period subject to recall after 14 days if the material is requested by another user.
  3. If the material is not returned within 10 days of recall or the due date, a notice is sent and, if necessary, followed up by telephone.
  4. A third notice is sent at 80 days overdue, and an invoice for the cost of replacing the book is sent at 100 days.

Penalties

  1. The University Librarian has the authority to withdraw borrowing privileges from staff who:
    1. fail to or refuse to return material to the library after receiving at recall notice which results from a request by another user for that material; or
    2. fail to or refuse to return material to the library after receiving 4 overdue notices (the 4th being an invoice for the cost of replacing the book). The 3rd or pre-invoice notice at 80 days will carry a warning that borrowing privileges will be suspended at the 100 day overdue or invoice stage.
  2. Borrowing privileges will be restored when the material is returned or at the discretion of the University Librarian.
