Bachelor of Arts

A Bachelor of Arts degree enables you to study what you are passionate about in life, and convert this learning into a career. You have the flexibility to choose from a broad range of courses, and to tailor the program to match your specific interests.

We currently have 15 majors and 16 minors to choose from.

As the program is offered on both the Newcastle and Central Coast campuses, courses from either campus may be counted towards the Bachelor of Arts, provided that you meet the program requirements.

As an arts graduate, you have highly developed research, communication, creative, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, and the capacity to think outside the square. These are the skills that employers look for when making recruitment choices.

As well as equipping you with these general skills, an Arts degree also builds specialist skills in the major of your choice.

There is no assumed knowledge for entry into the Bachelor of Arts

Mathematics for those anticipating studying Psychology.

English Advanced for all other major/s and/or minors.

Students who perform well during the Bachelor of Arts degree with a credit average (GPA of 5.0) or greater, may undertake a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study to obtain an Honours degree. The Honours degree allows students to further develop their specific areas of interest.

International students must comply with the University of Newcastle's English language proficiency requirements. All International Students enrolled in the program will be provided with an orientation to familiarise them with the rules, expectations, facilities and services offered by the University. Psychology Studies Major

This major is for students with a general interest in Psychology, and for those who see Psychology as complementary to their other majors within the Bachelor of Arts. From 2012 it will no longer be accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).

Students who commence the program in 2012 or after, and who wish to complete an accredited Psychology program, are advised to apply for admission to the 4 year Bachelor of Psychology program.
