Profile
Emeritus Professor Nicholas is a Professor of International Business. He was elected to the Academy of the Social Science in Australia in 1997 and served as the Inaugural President of the Australian-New Zealand International Business Academy; President of the Economic History Society of Australia and New Zealand; and Member of the International Economic History Association Executive. He has been Visiting Professor at Nagoya University, Research Fellow at the Australian National University, a Visiting Fellow at Economics, Reading University and a visitor at the London School of Economics, Business History Unit.
Professor Nicholas has extensive international research into the development of ‘whole societies’ with a focus on how a society interacts with its economic (business firms and unions), political (political parties and non-government organisations) and social (families and churches) organisations to ensure economic development while maintaining the right of individuals to exercise economic, social and political choices.
Drawing on his significant experience with such major players as Rio Tinto, NAB, Holden, Ford, IBM, Westpac and the Federal Government, Professor Nicholas’ ambition is to position the Faculty of Business and Law to forge partnerships that not only help the University achieve its research goals, but that deliver findings with real, practical applications.
Professor Nicholas has published over 120 refereed journal articles, book chapters and conference proceedings in international business, knowledge and diversity management, international human resource management, and business, economic and anthroprometric history. His recent publications include Journal of International Business Studies, Management International Review, International Studies in Management and Organizations, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, International Journal of Human Resource Management and Oxford Economic Papers.
