Reconstructing Forest – Woodland on Mine Spoil

We have been studying spoil rehabilitation since 1996 where the emphasis has been on sustainable nutrition, building vertically structured vegetation, and soil substitutes. Much of this research has been conducted by ten Honours students and three PhD candidates. The studies have been undertaken in the Mount Owen, Ravensworth East and Glendell mines in the Mount Owen Complex, as swell as at Donaldson, Hunter Valley No 1, Westside and Warkworth mines.
