Dr Ray McCredie Barker
1920-2009

Dr Barker worked for 25 years as an industrial psychologist, company director and management consultant.

His work involved large and small companies as well as Government Departments - in Australia, the UK, the USA, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.

Dr Barker's most recent research interests have been focussed in the area of Industrial History including studies of the relationship between industrial education and labour relations and work place training.

Dr Barker was recently honoured by the Australian Vocational Education and Training Research Assocation (AVETRA) who have named a new award in his honour. AVETRA awards are part of a capacity building mission and are a way of recognising achievements of members in VET Research and in AVETRA. Dr Barker is one of the senior members of AVETRA with a long background in VET, VET research, and involvement in industry.The Ray Barker Award for Distinguished Service to VET Research will be awarded annually and granted in recognition of exemplary and long term service to VET research community, significant contributions to VET research and scholarship; and outstanding contributions to the development and promotion of VET.

Dr Ray McCredie Baker was the Patron of SORTI and a generous benefactor of research at the University of Newcastle, University of Sydney and to the AVENTRA organisation.

It is with great sadness that we inform our members that Ray passed away at 6.15 on Friday 20 March  2009, at Mona Vale Hospital.

Ray will be greatly missed by all his friends at SORTI
