Research Training Workshops All workshops provided by SORTI are built on research findings within the centre and from the current literature and the considerable research and teaching experience of the presenters.

Workshop 1: Thesis Writing:"Not What But How"
Presenters: Dr R. Cantwell & Dr J. Scevak

There are many writing guides covering what to put in a thesis and the "mechanics" (grammar, punctuation, referencing) of writing, but few sources that guide students on how to write a thesis. The workshop focusses on the "how" and addresses how to structure ideas in a thesis and how to communicate these ideas based on research from the discipline of Educational Psychology.

Cost is $100 per head, maximum 10, including lunch, morning and afternoon tea. Students are asked to bring their work along and send a sample ahead. Dates are negotiable. Presentation off-site possible, otherwise all workshops located at Newbold Building. Email Dr Jill Scevak (Jill.Scevak@newcastle.edu.au) to organise a group or to join an existing group.

Workshop 2: AMOS
Presenter: Professor Sid Bourke

AMOS full-day workshops to be offered. First workshop will be held in December 2003. Students or academic staff who want to use AMOS in conjunction with SPSS in questionnaire-based research designs will welcome this workshop. Maximum 6 persons, $250 per head including lunch. To organise a group or join an existing group contact Professor Sid Bourke (Sid.Bourke@newcastle.edu.au)
