Leaders in Sustainability Series
2011 - The Legacy of Greg Heys
Planning - Local Government to Regional Community
Wednesday 8 June 5.30 - 8.00pm
Advanced Technology Centre Lecture Theatre (ATC210)
Greg Heys was Lord Mayor of Newcastle during the Pathways to Sustainability Conference in 1997. The City of Newcastle embarked on an ambitious energy reduction program, coinciding with the announcement that BHP would cease steel making in Newcastle in 1999. Greg Heys’ council identified that the City should seek a clean and green future, based around clean technology. This vision has resulted in a long list of achievements and research centres located in a City once renowned for smoke stacks and heavy pollution.
