Faculty of Science and Information Technology Summer Vacation Scholarships

Establishment

This scholarship is available to support a program of supervised research relevant to the student's program of study in the Faculty of Science and Information Technology, University of Newcastle, during the period November 2012 to the end of the mid-semester break in Semester 1 2013.

The scholarship holder is required to pursue a program of six (6) weeks of full-time research at either the Callaghan or Ourimbah campus, starting and ending during the period, under the supervision of a member of the academic staff of the Faculty.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

• Be enrolled full-time in the 2nd or 3rd year of any program offered by the Faculty of Science and Information Technology
• Not have previously received this scholarship

Benefit

Scholarships are valued at $2000 each payable in a lump sum upfront payment of $1500 with the remaining $500 payment payable upon the receipt of a written statement of outcomes from the recipient and a recommendation from the Principal Supervisor that the project has been undertaken and completed. Recipients will be required to do an oral presentation or submit a written report of their research at the end of the project.

Selection

Selection shall be based on academic merit, namely Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.0 or above, along with a brief statement (maximum of 100 words) outlining the applicants reasons for applying, why they are interested in a particular area of research, and their future goals and aspirations.
